Families,
Well, first, I want to say thank you again for all the warm wishes and thoughts over the past couple weeks. I am still healing and trying to get back in the groove not just coaching, but administratively, and communicating with players and getting back into the weight room-as that is a major culture piece I feel has not met my standards, and I feel a little like I let down the boys in that area. I will begin supervising our workouts again next week. NEW SCHEDULE I have attached a newly modified schedule for the remainder of the summer and all the way until the season. Beverly Klug, my booster club president, will be uploading the new schedule via the website by the end of the weekend. Here is the google link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wQxRUmF1i4UL1zNNKayN8k6tdw6Yr5yzR9W8vghpkME/edit?usp=sharing Summer Workouts: July-August Monday / Thursday Summer Workouts with an Open Gym once a week (Wednesdays, mostly.) Fall Workouts: September-August Monday, Wednesday, Thursday with an Open Gym available once a week. Saturday Hills Sept 9 until Nov 4 Leagues Tuesdays Varsity Mix 4 weeks in October at South Division Sunday Leagues: JV/Var Mix at New Berlin West (F/JV Combo with some Var) Varsity at Brookfield Central HS (Var only) CAMP We have 3 Weeks of Camp: July 10-14 3/4 Grade 1-4pm 40 Kids: We have 4 Adult Coaches, Need 5 players (3 coaches, 2 demonstrators) July 17-21 5/6 Grade 1-4pm 60+ kids: We have 4 Adult Coaches, Need 8 players (5 Coaches, 3 demonstrators) July 24-28 7/8 Grade 9am-4pm 40+ kids: We have 3 Adult Coaches, Need 5-10 players (3 coaches, 2 demonstrators): A group can work the morning for drills, Afternoon for team play This camp is a major fundraiser! We expect our players to work the camp or make an appearance at some point in some way. Camps pay for events, gear, travel opportunities, technology needs, subscription to our strength program, uniform needs, and other miscellaneous needs of the program. The camps are fun for the players. They get to be coaches of their own teams. We draft players after the first day. For the full day camp we will provide a full lunch to the boys. All camp coaches get T-shirts. We would prefer the Incoming Frosh to help with week 2 with the huge amount of kids, but you can choose whatever camp you want. Never can have enough volunteers. All coaches get camp shirts as well. BOOSTER CLUB MEETING / FLORIDA TRIP We will be having a Booster Club Meeting in late July / Early August to discuss a trip that was approved by the Athletic Department. We will discuss the events of the trip, the fund raising necessary, and other program needs. If this trip is a success we plan to make it a bi-annual event. My belief is that one of the greatest things about athletics are the experiences. We also are preparing our kids for playing in college, where traveling is a common occasion. Last, we create program exposure and athlete exposure. We will make this a mandatory event. What we know: Where: Ocoee, FL (Near Orlando, FL) What: Ocoee Holiday Basketball Tournament Who: Varsity Members and Staff When: Drive: Leave Dec. 26 Return Jan 1st OR Fly: Leave Dec. 27 Return Jan 1st How: We want to fly, but may require unique fundraising at a cost of $6000--This is where all of us can brainstorm. I get 3 fundraisers every year. The booster club does as well. Camps and my Franklin Freeze Tourney in February will contribute to about 60% of the cost. 40% of those monies have been earmarked for other items this year: new uniforms, Steve Becker Strength Subscription, Krossover Game Scouting / Film service, and player events-team meals, outings, etc. I have an idea for a Free Throw fundraiser called, Free Throws for Flights, where we will do a program free throw shooting event for 12 hours (2 every 1/2 hour) making as many as you can in 30 minutes and getting 10 people to commit to donating .10/.20/.25 or other amount per Free Throw made. 25% of the proceeds will go to the Veteran's Honor Flight program, and the other amount will go towards our flights to Florida. Why: I have traveled with basketball across countries, states, and cities. Those memories have been tremendous for both the players and coaches. It’s a great reward for our program for all the hard work the boys have put in. We will continue to do this bi-annually with a small overnight trip in-state every other year (such as next year, Dells games or to Illinois event). This will engage the boys and motivate them to continue to work hard and help understand the need to work outside of the season to obtain excellence in season. Other: We are going to stay on a Disney Complex resort and use ESPN Studio for our practice reps. 3 games vs teams from Florida and other surrounding states. Team Meal New Year’s Eve and 1 day Hopper for Boys to visit parks. SUMMER BASKETBALL Frosh: We still have summer league going on. I am fielding a Round Robin for the end of the month. JV: The leagues are finished. The event at Sussex Hamilton was cancelled. We may try to set up another event, a one day event July 22-23 Varsity: We have two events left--WBBY in Plymouth, July 15-16 (4 games plus championship), and the WBCA event in West Bend, July 22-23. We may need a whole program help as many guys have AAU events happening and football is starting. I attached the event for Plymouth. Enjoy the rest of the summer. On the schedule I stated there are 21 summer opportunities and 37 fall opportunities. There are 129 days until the start of our next run! Be a part of as many as you can. Give yourself better opportunities to be successful. The only item I didn't discuss is during the fall season, we may do Sunday morning shoot arounds. This would be a great chance for the multisport athletes to come in and get shots up without contact. This will be during non-league Sundays. Any questions or comments, please shoot me a call, text, or email. Make sure the boys contact me with regard to camp, some already have. GO Sabers! Coach Podoll 414.690.5784

Families and Players:
What a great summer for our boys at all levels. I was able to spend quality time with our incoming Frosh class on Mondays and finish the season with a Varsity team bonding trip in the Dells at Chula Vista, all while going to graduation parties for our first senior class and saying goodbye. The summer consisted of three leagues and many tournaments. We played Varsity and JV leagues at BC and Wisconsin Lutheran. We played only freshman at South Milwaukee this year. We felt the competition was an upgrade for us at BC and the same at WLC over the SM league. We also felt that the refereeing was better in the two leagues on the north side this year. Next year we will be moving our Frosh to Pewaukee. We feel it will be more competitive compared to only two teams and we will get away from the atrocious refereeing. Our players and parents were irritable the entire time. The two big summer moments for our Varsity team happened in Plymouth and JustaGame fieldhouse in the Dells. Plymouth is always an important weekend as it's an opportunity for our team to bond but also rep their individual and team abilities in front of Mark Miller--the basketball writer from Wissports and Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook. We went 2-2 in the pool but had great showings from Jacob Vonderwell, Soph, all tournament team and Marcus Lee who made clutch FTs down the stretch. With our team complete we would have won both games. Missing a couple guys we competed but lost. With that solid effort and some practices and AAU completed we had a solid group of guys and went to the Dells and won our pool going 3-0. We looked stronger, faster, and more skilled than the HS teams we played. We ran our Swing very well and all our sets and defensively collaborated very well. We lost in the semi finals to an AAU out of Lax but fought till the end. they made 19/25 3pters. We had it down 48-45 with 9 min left and lost by 14. Marcus Lee with 30pts but easily was the best player on the floor that game and loved watching him make all the right reads in our offense. Jacob and Zak Klug kicked in strong efforts to help keep it competitive. The weekend was a success with chillin teammates and eating and chasing Pokemon. Next summer we are headed to Ohio University team camp to see our old Frosh coach, Joe Gricar! SUMMER CAMP This summer we ran three weeks of camps. Part of building our culture is from the youth up and having our players feel a part of that pride. We had some part time contributions from some guys: Ron, Calvin, Cody, and Hugo. They all helped out but our Varsity core stepped up and did a great job with 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8 grades. Thanks to all those boys. They earned the Dells trip. They coached stations, drafted teams, managed teams and behaviors, and had to referee games. Three weeks of hard work: thanks to Zak K, Jacob, Ryley, Caleb, Abe, Eddie, and Z Pow and Zach M. I think our culture was instilled and the youth kids get it. They heard all the same language we use at our level. The 3/4 graders to Varsity run the same offense and defense and was great to see the older guys teaching how we teach. Thanks to all the families involved helping us with camps: Decker, Klug, Bartoshevich, Tilley, and Clarks. We had a ton of little guys helping, including my son Eli coaching a 3/4 grade team, running score boards, managing stations, and more: Brady, Dolan, Carter C, Mason K, Carson F, Terrence Shellton, Grayson, My assistants Stekel, Reed, and the new coach Depouw along with the old Frosh coach Gricar all were huge in making this a success. After expenses and we are hoping to have raised 10k. A majority of those monies will be used for our annual trips--which begin next year to Orlando, Florida. Coaching Changes Part of building a good program is hiring good coaches. Unfortunately, good coaches don't stay too long. Joe Gricar took a job at Ohio University. Freshman Coach --Ryan Depouw We are very fortunate to have a new teacher in the Franklin school district fill this position immediately. Ryan Depouw will be coaching freshman this year while also teaching social studies at the high school. Some of you may have met him. He is a go-getter and a sponge. A really nice kid with the passion to learn. He has bought into our culture immediately. He was a WBCA All-Star in high school and averaged 29.5 points a game for Oconto. That is a small school near Green Bay, Wisconsin. He played for a very competitive AAU program and then played four years at Lawrence University and last year student taught and coached with a varsity program in Appleton. He will be really helpful for modeling and explaining in small groups. JV Coach Joe Stekel, an experienced coach, helped our program get off to a good start last year by providing plenty of strategy and program implementation ideas. He taught in MPS last year while helping us coach but located another opportunity to teach in Illinois and thus will be leaving our coaching staff. Best of luck to coach Stekel in his new opportunities. We have posted a new position and will be looking for our coach over the next month. A few people already reached out to us inquiring about the opening and that is exciting. Next! We now begin our fall workouts. Until Labor Day will start our complex program in the weight room. Complex refers to building sets on same muscle group--back to back. Our days of the week will remain consistent on Mondays and Wednesdays. Will work out on Fridays and Sundays but please review our website for schedule times and necessary changes because we may not work out on football nights of home games. We may switch some Sundays to Saturdays due to Gym restrictions. Will start running hills this Sunday. Will start with 9 this week and build up to 22 the week before the season starts. As we get into school we may change Hills to weekdays instead of weekends and most likely two Saturdays because we will have leagues on Sundays beginning in September. We did this last year and we had every much more involvement. The hills are essential for building mental and physical toughness and overall team camaraderie. I really encourage all the players and families of players or if you know of someone who may be interested in playing basketball to have them come work out. Our workout program is injury prevention first and athlete performance second. Fall Sport Athletes We know we have soccer, volleyball, cross country, and football athletes that may want to play basketball in the winter. For new families or a reminder of last year, we want to offer up the same opportunities for your athletes that we have for our non fall or basketball only athletes. If your Athlete wants to participate in the workouts in the weight room feel free to come. They can use as a maintenance program which I will adjust according to their sport. There is nothing wrong with continuing to strength train during your season. I will make sure that they will not suffer from overuse but instead use it as a lactate acid recovery and flexibility program. If they want to come to the gym and they are varsity athletes we will let them shoot and work out but not have any contact in game formats. We will have a fall league at new Berlin West and Brookfield Central and South division. The first two are Sunday legs. If they want to participate in those legs and they are not varsity athletes please seek out our fall league youth program coaches Steve Lee and Keith Decker. We encourage anyone involved in football or any sport for that matter to come to the Sunday open gyms and put up shots as we have a shooting program similar to a strength program. Last year Max Alba was found on Sundays often and it saved him weeks of catch-up time with the ball. We are still building culture and we are still building expectations. We aren't where we want to be yet with regard to culture, work ethic, systematically basketball wise, skills or strength, but myself and my asst Coach, Marcus Reed, are very excited about the one year of growth we had. This year our theme just adds on to the one from last year. Last year we had a theme "the game honors toughness." As we preached mental and physical toughness last year, we believe this year we can boast with pride this year's mission, BRAVE: "Be Relentless Achieving Victory Everyday." This credo stems from Tim Grover's book, Relentless. There are many opportunities for your child to participate in from here until November 14th, 1st day of tryouts. We are looking for those that will be relentless in achieving a victory every day in those opportunities. Those that take advantage of those opportunities will come to tryouts physically and mentally prepared. If you can't make my opportunities work, create your own opportunities because that's being BRAVE as well! Last notes: One last chance to order our ironically labeled long sleeve summer special shirts through the Booster club. Contact Bev Klug. We have about 75 orders already and are hoping to get 75 more. We will be ordering all the shirts on Friday so please reach out to Bev via email if you'd like to order. http://saberhoops.weebly.com/fbb-shirt-order-form.html Summer League fees This past summer the FYBBA organized all of our tournaments and leagues we entered. I was an agent of the FYBBA which allowed me to coach and manage players per the WIAA. The cost was $85. If you have not paid for Summer basketball please do so. The fees approximated $4000. FYBBA donated one of the leagues reducing the cost to $3600. We are about 10 players shorts that have not paid. Later this week you'll receive an individual email reminder. Thank you. Good luck fall athletes and good luck Baller workout guys. We are excited and we expect good things to happen this year. Let your work in the off-season pay off in season. Any questions please call, text, or email me. My phone number is 414-690-5784. PS. I just had shoulder surgery today. I will be in and out over the course of the next two weeks but my assistants will handle most of the workouts as well as the varsity kids with experience. I had a lot of parents and people reach out to help volunteer, thank you. I will be at full strength in December, but will have the adrenaline running in November and be strong enough to lead a very successful try out. Families and Players: Welcome to week 4 of the summer session. I am going to call myself officially organized with regard to the schedule. After discussions with a few players we have decided that maintaining our own early evening WEIGHT ROOM TIMES combined with OPEN GYMS would be the best instead of going to open lifts. Please see the bullet below and schedule for updates. The change was made so that I can attend and be the leader of the strength and conditioning sessions to make sure the lifts are done correctly and I can always adjust on the fly and keep it fresh and move with players directly into open gyms. If players can't make the sessions then the weight room will be available 8-10am, 3-5pm and my lift cards will be available. We are introducing a new app this Friday for players. They will use this as a check in and management tool of their conditioning and strength training. Athlete performance will have it ready Friday. I will see all incoming Frosh tomorrow night at 7:30-9 for their first lift. We have added a new piece to the Monday lifts: Skills. Following the strength and conditioning sessions on MONDAYS players will go through ball-handling skills next to the weight room. These skills sessions will be intense cardio ballhandling, stance, and controlled core 30-40 minute workouts. Students will improve footwork, footspeed, hand eye coordination, and touch. On Wednesdays and Sundays we will combine strength and conditioning with OPEN GYMS. Wednesday nights open gym is 8:30-10pm: come and play, shoot, work on skills. Alumni will come and compete in the summer with the boys. We are moving all Friday open gyms to Sunday mornings. All but one open gym is at 9am-11am followed by WR from 11-12. Please see calendar for changes. We made this change due to having too many tourneys on Fridays and we want 3 workouts still. Come in and get shots, skills, or play and then hit the weights or just come and lift and shoot, but come in. My expectation is that if you want to be a changer of a program you have to be a part of the solution: my solution to increasing the program is to increase opportunities in strength and conditioning, skills training, and playing together. Please see the schedule located at our Saber Hoops website or via the google drive link in this email. http://saberhoops.weebly.com/off-season-training.html https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AjnBs190XnsOOpKk0PdhkEzSOAPzWNznW6Iv4TTRNmE/edit#gid=698415455 MWF: WEIGHT ROOM and OPEN GYM WORKOUT Please see schedule but for the most part: MONDAYS: WR 7:30-8:30 WR SKILLS: 8:30-9:15 WEDNESDAYS: WR 7:30-8:30 OPEN GYM: 8:30-10pm ALL LEVELS SUNDAYS: OPEN GYM: 9-11am WR: Anytime 9-12pm LEAGUE PLAY: M: Incoming frosh have league at South Milwaukee. T: League at Brookfield Central (JV 530/620) (V 7:10 / 8pm) TH: League at Wisconsin Lutheran College (JV 530/630) (V 730/830) Tournaments please see schedule---some weekends. LAST WEEK: Our Varsity Gold went 1-1 at the Brookfield Central league losing to Greenfield and defeating Nathan Hale. Team Varsity BLACK went 1-1 at South Division on Tuesday and 0-2 against two quality teams at WLC: West Allis Central and Brookfield East. The Incoming Frosh had a good showing at Arrowhead round robin beating the host team, losing to Sussex, and beating Mukwonago Friday night. Many of the incoming freshman have helped us out at the JV level as well. Keep working hard. They are starting to understand the the concept of the culture we are putting together. THIS WEEK: We have a very busy week. We had games last night at South Milwaukee for the first week of Summer League-Frosh went 1-1, taking one on the chin vs the Rival OC. Next week we strike back! Tuesday BC league for JV and Var Gold, Wednesday first lift of summer with new program at HS and Open Gym, WLC League for JV and VAR BLACK, then two tourneys Friday at Monona Grove and Saturday at South Division in the morning for Var Gold followed by Sunday Open Gym and Conditioning. SUMMER CAMPS: I am looking for 6 volunteers per week from the JV and Varsity teams?
New registration deadline: July 1st. July 11-15th 3rd and 4th grades July 18-22nd 5th and 6th grades July 23rd: Father/Son Camp July 25-29th: Full Day 7th and 8 grade camp See link: http://www.franklin.k12.wi.us/athletics-activities-sp-26021/timothy-matheus/government-articles/summer-camps.html PODOLL'S POINTS First, the summer season is about helping build a connection to the program. One of my students left this summer saying she was only qualified to work at fast food places. I said to her, "What qualifies you for your job is your qualifications. If you are unsatisfied with what you are qualified for, then you have to put quality into your work and develop better qualifications." I mention this because this summer is about developing your qualifications. We have opportunities for your athletes to put in quality work so that they are qualified in the fall. Second, I am enjoying working with all the students this summer and meeting new parents and seeing ones from the past year. I am the high school coach, but in the summer I am the agent for the FYBBA, however, we are all Sabers. The incoming freshman get to see the toughness and dedication of the program. The JV team gets to build off their success and role right into summer continuing the process. Both Gold and Black teams growing together as we replace 8 seniors and learning the culture and concepts and basketball terminology and my quirks. We have continuity of play on the floor, now, we need to build continuity off the floor. For all the new families coming in I have linked our expectations for players and protocol for addressing situations when they have questions or concerns. If you have questions or concerns please come to myself or one of my staff members. We should be your first line, and I am really open, approachable, and willing to listen. Last, I would like to inform you three focus points this summer by our coaches: IMPACT PLAYERS LIVES, PREPARE OUR TEAM, and BUILDING BELIEF IN OUR SYSTEM. We may not be their parent, but we as coaches are in a position to be positive and important people to your kids. We will be people of integrity and hope your athletes seek out guidance from us now and forever after they leave the program. We have beliefs in toughness, hard work, truth, loyalty, and responsibility. We will always treat your players with respect and help them feel important equally to all other teammates. No role is too little. When you are a part of the program you are a complete part. That coach-player relationship is crucial in building those traits listed. Communicating with the players as a group, one-on-one, and keeping a door open to concerns helps us learn to trust each other and be a unified program and community. Thanks everyone! Have a great week!!! Families and Players: We are into week three of the Spring / Summer schedule. We are getting more organized with players schedules. It has been a challenge to coordinate everyone's busy schedules and the end of the year school sports schedules. However, I want everyone to also keep this perspective:
My assistant coach, Marcus Reed, stated to me that simplicity is best. In simple terms here is what we have as a summer schedule: MWF: Weight Room and Open Gym Workout Please see schedule. However: I will be in weight room from 4-5, followed by open gyms most days from 5-630 at the school. Open Gyms will be like the weight workouts. We have a shooting card and skills card for you to check off or you can come in and just play? Will be available for everyone. We would hope that we see you 1 time a week and put in the work. If you are not in a fall sport then we want to see you everyday! M: Incoming frosh have league at South Milwaukee. See attachment. Generally from 530-630 game times. T: League at Brookfield Central (JV 530/620) (V 7:10 / 8pm) TH: League at Wisconsin Lutheran College (JV 530/630) (V 730/830) Tournaments please see schedule---some weekends. LAST WEEK: Our Varsity Gold had a competitive week. They went 1-1 at the Brookfield Central league coming back from 16 down against Greendale, who is huge, and brought the entire squad, and won. We played Greendale on Sunday and had the lead for the entire game but a small stretch at the end put them up for good. We had great efforts by our guys on Sunday. I tweeted about scoreboard watching vs effort and improvement watching. As a coach we do both but care more about the latter. Team Varsity BLACK went 2-0 at South Division. Faisal, Caleb, Jose, and Adam Dohr put on a show hitting 15 3's to beat South Div in OT. Lost to them the week before in OT. Thanks to last minute help from 5 of our incoming Frosh, our JV team went 1-1 last week. They had an eye opener vs Sussex losing by a couple feet, but responded with great defensive effort to be a solid Hale program. Great job teams. Our Seniors graduated and said goodbye. If anyone was able to get some good pictures send them to us. I have a last minute idea to remind them that they are a Saber Hooper for life. We will still have them June 6th but at 5:30-715. Workouts will be an introduction to the our language, defensive concepts, drills, and feel prepared for Friday June 10th. Please Register!!! http://www.franklin.k12.wi.us/athletics-activities-sp-26021/golf-outing.html PODOLL'S POINTS On Sunday I had a great conversation with kids from Pewaukee HS during half time of one of the games. I enjoyed listening to them talk about collaboration, collective responsibility, and character. They hold each other accountable and they work out EVERYDAY after school. Many play AAU, some are in other sports, but they all find a way to get together because they said, "We want to win it all, and be the best our community ever has had." Beyond the Pewaukee kids conversation, I saw something on the floor at Brook Central that has stood out and made an impression in a positive way, one that is a teachable moment and was Sunday for our team. A Brook Central player with Varsity experience grabbed another player during our game, while up by 15+, and said to the other player after making a poor decision defensively and attitude wise said, "We don't do that in this program. Know and understand what we do here." The other kid looked at him like he was crazy, but accepted it and responded in a positive way in behavior and action. It was a wake up call. I used it on Sunday to help the boys understand that we do things a certain way too. Guys that are in year two, need to address others, to hold accountable, on and off the floor, but the biggest key is to accept it not as criticism, but to become one strong fist, to be victorious everyday in all things small and big! Now, last week I asked you all to poke around at the Kaukauna website and now this week I mention the Pewaukee and Brookfield players. I am leading you down a path that suggests we want to make your boys the best they can be adn know how to do it on their own and with our help. We want to create victories everyday in their lives! If we lack the skills to communicate, collaborate, and cultivate a culture then we will lose more than just on the scoreboard. Franklin has had 2 plaques in 40 years in Boys Basketball. If you want something you've never had as a community, school, or player before, you have to be willing to do something you've never done before. Culture creation started last year, but lets not lose the process we started, lets build on it: Trust the Proceess, The Game Honors Toughness 5 C's: Community, Communication, Continuity, Character, and Consitency Now comes... BRAVE: Be Relentless Achieving Victory Everyday! Have a great end to the school year!!! See you all soon! Families and Players: We are into week two of the Spring / Summer schedule. What a great weekend of weather for everyone. Earlier today I sent out a message with regard to the games today. I did double book a spring league and summer league and I did so because of the amount of passion and commitment you all showed to the program this past year. I wanted to accommodate for all those in spring sports and end of the year events. We will make it work. We are on the rise and for every bump or bruise, it comes at the price of creating success. If you know anyone else that should be on the list, or can forward to them, I encourage all to participate. LAST WEEK: Our Varsity Gold had a good run but lost both games in OT and down the stretch. After being down by more than 10 in both games, Varsity Gold came back and took control of games until the last minute. Marcus Lee twisted his ankle in the first game and everyone rallied to fight. Caleb Selensky threw up a shot for the ages behind his back for three that was a serious highlight. As a new group it was exciting to see all the hard work in the weight room pay off. The BALLIN' CLUB was excited to have listeners last week. We have had a ton of good feedback. We are excited to create new and fun fund raising activities. Stay tuned for the next meeting date and news. THE NEXT TWO WEEKS! Complete schedule: https://drive.google.com/open?d=1AjnBs190XnsOOpKk0PdhkEzSOAPzWNznW6Iv4TTRNmE

It took a couple years if not a few, four, or five, but now, the foundation has been set. We put a foundation down last year about expectations of the player, the student, the community, parent, and coaches. We will continue to do so. One parent did make a comment that my schedule may be too ambitious. I agree, it is very ambitious. I have high expectations. We believe it to not be ambitious but OPPORTUNISTIC. The state title team, Kaukauna, has plenty of opportunities. Look at their website and expectations. Creating a similar environment, culture, and adventurous OPPORTUNITIES should lead to the same success to carry the community to great heights. http://www.kaukaunaboyshoopsclub.com/summer-basketball Have a great end to the school year!!! See you all soon! Dear Families and Athletes: Welcome Back! Greetings to all and hello to the new families. I am Coach Podoll, and on behalf of my staff, Coach Reed, Coach Stekel, and Coach Gricar, I hope all your spring sports and academic work is winding down nicely! I have let you escape from my updates for long enough! Last year was unbelievable! Working with the parents, community members, and the boys was a great experience for myself and our staff. We have many exciting things to announce and inform you all about and putting it all together has taken a bit more time than I thought. This email draft has been a two week process, but we wanted to make sure its all right and clear, and concise. So, lets begin the controlled chaos! WHATS HAPPENING NOW

We have set up a very competitive high school summer league. The cost is $85, check payable to FYBBA, brought to HS, or given to me or Ryan Goodno. Here are the basics:
SUMMER WORKOUTS
YOUTH CAMPS
These camps are the major income source for our program. Please pass on the flyer and information to any kid in your household, school in or out of Franklin, or neighborhood. Here is the link for it: http://saberhoops.weebly.com/2016-youth-camps.html To download Concussion, Waiver, or form you can go to HS website as well: http://www.franklin.k12.wi.us/athletics-activities-sp-26021/timothy-matheus/government-articles/summer-camps.html SAYING GOODBYE!!!! I would like to say one more time good bye to the hard working group of seniors who will be graduating in around two weeks from HS: Brett, Nadar, Tyler, Sam, Matt, Max, Michael, Nick, and Tony. Good luck to all you boys that will become men June 5th! It goes fast and I am glad I was able to spend 1 stolen season from your lives. Go JOE!!! Yes, we are saying goodbye to Joe Gricar! Joe has been shopping his skills as a talented sport administrator, coach, video editor, and marketing material expert since the season ended. Joe made the finalist list at a D2 school out of 80+ people and several schools have been in touch, but finally Joe is going to perhaps the hottest and greatest staff in the country: Ohio Bobcats and Saul Phillips and Will Ryan. Joe will be a Grad Asst their while earning his Master's Degree in Sport Administration / Coaching from the #1 ranked Grad Program in the country for that degree. Joe joked with them during the interview saying that he could be there and ready to work the next day, and pretty close, they called him on it, and he leaves Tuesday and will be a Bobcat Wednesday. I have had 8 frosh coaches in 8 years and besides Coach Reed, wink wink, Joe G was the best by a mountain top. Thanks for all the hard work, and good luck in Athens. PODOLL's POINTS Again, welcome families that are new. If you know of anyone who has not been added to the list that should be, just email me their information. Also, if we don't have your son's email, we would like to get that as well. We are still part of the first year of the program, which last year we called the implementation phase. As we go through the summer, we understand there are other sport, family, or job conflicts. There will be a few bumps or bruises along the way, that's ok as long as we communicate with each other so we don't hinder the program goals. Please let us know if you do not want to be a part of the summer leagues and events. There are many opportunities for the athletes and we thought it quite entertaining last year. We changed venues for JV/Var because the competition we found to be stronger and would help our kids become stronger and we have some great events for kids at a great price. We want you to know that our strength comes in our 5 C's: Communicating, Community, Character, Consistency, and Continuity. To inform the new families, we have worked hard to build this the first year, plus a few other C sounds: Conditioning, Karma... If you look at our website you can read some of the old pieces of news to get an idea about what we have done and where we are trying to go. Thanks everyone again. If you have any questions, please feel free to text or call at 414.690.5784. Several of you have (Mr. Martens!), so great communicating!!! Happy Armed Forces Day! THIS WEEK Steve Becker and Training This week we are having a big kickoff for the training sessions. Thursday night we are doing an open weight room and a meet and greet with Steve Becker from Athlete Performance (trainap.net). Come up and meet Steve and watch him put our boys through the first workout. He will be returning off and on through the preseason and inseason to make sure our boys are getting the right techniques and motivation. See attached flyer. The program will be for 7th and 8th graders as well, but this week-our meet and greet is for the HS parents and kids. These workouts are great. They are short and effective and specific to basketball. |
Families and Players: Greetings everyone! I am going to just start by stating it immediately: IMPRESSIVE! That is the word I would use to describe the FOOTBALL PROGRAM, GAME NIGHT, THE COMMUNITY, THE SUPPORTERS, THE STUDENT BODY, THE ADMINISTRATION, and the teammates on the field. That was my first Franklin Football game and I was welcomed with many kind words and waves. Great work Saber Football and Saber Nation! |
